Your player is going to have a blast at what has been called "The minicamp that takes the best of what baseball, summer camp, track meet, and video games have to offer." Whether or not your player is headed for the MLB or not, they're going to have loads of fun. We believe that FUN keeps kids in the game.
On average, kids leave soft/baseball before they're 11 years old because it's not fun - there's not enough action. Runner Gunner Slugger Derby camps, leagues, and sponsored events remove the slow parts of the game and replace them with action-packed, development-rich, and positively fun experiences -- keeping kids in t
Have you noticed youth baseball and softball games encourage stealing bases more than getting hits? In fact, on average there are 20.6 stolen bases versus 11.5 hits per game.
A typical youth game lasting four innings has only 7.9 balls-in-play. How can your player get better when she/he doesn't have the opportunity to field a ball?
In a 1.5-hour game, data shows players only get 1.6 plate appearances per game. Maybe this is why their confidence waivers so much when they're at the plate?
Let's face it, we need to do something different to keep our kids in this game.
Players of all skill levels love participating because the boring parts of the game are removed. They hit more, run more, field more, and as a result - have more fun!
Who wants to sit around and wait? Every minute of every camp, league, or event is meticulously planned so participants are thoroughly exhausted by the end.
Sure it's fun, but Runner Gunner Slugger camps, leagues, and events are equally focused on training the skills players need to excel.
According to a poll from the National Alliance for Youth Sports, around 70 percent of kids in the United States stop playing organized sports by the age of 13 because “It’s just not fun anymore.”
In a different study, nine of 10 kids said "fun" is the main reason they participate. When asked to define "fun," they offered up 81 reasons. “Winning” came in at #48. Young girls gave “winning” the lowest ratings. Six out of 10 kids said they quit sports because they lost interest.
Participation in youth baseball and softball has declined 1-2 percent every year, says Patrick Wilson, Little League’s senior vice president of operations. “There is a generation of parents now that don’t have a connection to the game because they didn’t play it themselves, and if you didn’t play, you’re less likely to go out in the back yard and have a catch.”
Even some baseball insiders admit that baseball isn’t the most exciting sport to play or watch as Andrew Pollak writes in Inside Pitch, “Time to face the truth. The best game can become boring.” In fact, a typical three-hour long MLB contains just under 18 minutes of actual playing time. Attend a youth baseball or softball game and you’d be hard-pressed to experience even half of that. This is an unfortunate reality.
