Players of all skill levels love this summer camp because the boring parts of baseball are removed. We are active for four hours, five days straight. From 8:00 a.m. to noon, there is no standing around. Breaking up the campers into smaller groups and working on specific skills gives them more repetitions – the bedrock of baseball.
Sure it's fun, but Runner Gunner Slugger camps are equally focused on training the skills players need to excel. We just figured out how to make them well...entertaining. We call them "Slammer Skillz." They learn how to slide under the tag, dive to make the catch, leap to rob a home run, confidently catch a towering pop fly, flip the ball
Sure it's fun, but Runner Gunner Slugger camps are equally focused on training the skills players need to excel. We just figured out how to make them well...entertaining. We call them "Slammer Skillz." They learn how to slide under the tag, dive to make the catch, leap to rob a home run, confidently catch a towering pop fly, flip the ball out of the glove to make the out, “do damage” at the plate, assigned “homework” to understand the game better, and more. Much more.
All ballplayers come home exhausted and typically covered in dirt, grass stains, eye black, and maybe even soaking wet from a friendly water sprayer fight (parents are encouraged to bring a towel with them for the car ride home). They've also been known to be colored head-to-toe with slime or powder. But they always head home with a huge
All ballplayers come home exhausted and typically covered in dirt, grass stains, eye black, and maybe even soaking wet from a friendly water sprayer fight (parents are encouraged to bring a towel with them for the car ride home). They've also been known to be colored head-to-toe with slime or powder. But they always head home with a huge smile on their face and better baseball players who appreciate the game even more.
Don't take our word for it, notice the smiles on their faces. This ain't no ordinary baseball camp.
It's a "baseball merry-go-round." This one-hour game results in four times more at-bats, more balls in play than a typical youth baseball game. No walks and no stolen bases. It makes baseball much more fun. Get the reps you need to be a game changer for your team. This video explains it all.
Using a pitching machine and slightly modified rules, this fast-paced approach to the game is fun and action packed. Each player has five pitches to get the ball into play, creating defensive chances that develop player skills and reactions.
The classic game that promotes eye-hand coordination, quick reactions, and is loads of fun. Two bases, two fielders, one tennis ball, and runners who try to constantly steal the bases.
Accurately judging velocity and distance of a fly ball just takes repetition. Stationary catching as well as angling are taught and safely practiced to build confidence for the next towering pop fly.
We see those graceful diving catches on TV and think they're easy. Mastering this skill requires complete concentration and a soft landing spot.
Awkward slides will be a thing of the past after this exercise. When was the last time you practiced sliding? Probably never but now you will.
All RGS camps and leagues are based on solid hitting techniuqes. Instructors provide tips and tricks to get the ball in play to generate runs. At some events, players swing for the fences in a Home Run Derby.
Compared to a typical youth game that lasts 1.5 hours, our stats show that in 55-minutes, one game of 5-Pitch Plucky® creates:
Doesn't that sound like more action? When the ball is in play, players get the reps they need to 1) win the championship game, 2) earn the “All-Star” designation and, 3) keep your player in the game.
The bulk of the camper’s time will be spent playing a game called the “5-Pitch Plucky®” which has been described as a “baseball merry-go-‘round.” It keeps the player’s attention - we promise. No one will be heard yelling, “Baseball ready!”
When Campers aren’t playing “5-Pitch Plucky®”, they get to make diving catches onto a thick gymnastics pad, slide into home head first using a sliding mat, play spirited games of Pickle, as well as develop hitting, fielding, and bunting skills. We teach proper technique while having a blast! Your ballplayer will come home a better ballplayer.
Participants will wonder how it is already time to leave because they're having so much fun. Here's a quick summary of what they'll do:
- Drop & go, review homework, Team Talk, and warm up
- Station rotation where specific fundamental skills are taught
- Non-baseball activity that supports baseball
- Diving catch, sliding, bunting, hitting, and fly ball fundamentals
- The National Anthem and then a game of 5-Pitch Plucky
- Scouting Report (ratings on individual traits like effort, hustle, and sportsmanship)
- Shenanigans (slime fight, water soakers, colored powder bath, and other fun)
- Hand out tomorrow's homework and clean up
This a fantastically fun event for experienced and casual baseball players that will keep them in the game. Guaranteed.
