This is the perfect camp for your son because both the 5PP and Slammer Skillz are specifically designed to level out the talent. We put on our thinking hats and have specially designed each exercise to challenge your player regardless of their skill or age within the group.
The bulk of camp time is spent playing “Five-Pitch Plucky” (5PP). We've replaced the human pitcher with a machine and modified the rules a little. These changes produce more balls-in-play because the batter is swinging at, and hitting, "meatballs." As batters put more balls in play, it creates more action in the field. There are so many advantages to this new version of baseball that it can't all be written down. Trust us, it's so good for your ballplayer because it not only gives him reps - it's so fun!
No. Absolutely not. This is an action-packed, development-rich outdoor activity that will be more fun than your child's favorite video game. We guarantee it.
Not at all. Your ballplayer is going to get "game" experience and that's the most important type of experience you can get. But let's be honest, even playing at the highest levels, players don't see much action and only get up to bat a few times each game. 5PP accelerates the game so that there's 7X more balls in play than a typical game. After this camp, we bet your player will probably be the biggest advocate for Runner Gunner Slugger camps and 5-Pitch Plucky.
Chris Dahlander, Commissioner, will run the camps with the help of some fantastic and enthusiastic instructors. Chris is a Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach and has been coaching youth baseball for over tenyears and is the creator of Runner Gunner Slugger and 5-Pitch Plucky.
There's enough stress on our young player's arms already. With a pitching machine, we can give arms a rest while still enjoying the fun aspects of the game.
As we all know, the Texas heat can be brutal. Starting before the heat of the day keeps our players and instructors safe. But, send your ballplayer with lots of water.
Not at this time. But check back later because we're always looking for ways to keep our kids in the game.
We want your ballplayer to play freely. Believe it or not, watching your player puts innate pressure on your ballplayer to perform and we want him/her to make mistakes so he/she can learn how to adjust.
Send questions to info@runnergunner.com and we'll reply as quickly as we can.
Another diving catch for the highlight reel. Nice catch kid!
No matter where you play, catching a pop fly is critical. Runner Gunner Slugger gives players the practice they need to get the out.
Every kid dreams of making a catch like this in a game. But be honest, when do they get to practice a catch like this? Runner Gunner Slugger events give ballplayers the instruction and a soft landing.
We all see those amazing base runners sliding just under or around or over or...somehow avoid being tagged out. These mats help players learn the nuances of these moves. But is it fun? Just ook at that kid's face!
This game promotes a "ball first, base second" mentality that is so important no matter what position you play.
Awkward slides will be a thing of the past after this exercise. Campers first get the proper instruction, then they get to practice and practice and practice because it is FUN. Repetition makes the master. Goodbye awkward slides. Hello stolen base!
Doesn't this look like fun? This is what our campers do when not playing 5PC. Learn to slide & avoid the tag. Over & over. It's hard to get them to stop this Slammer Skill. #AvoidTheTag #HeadFirst
We see those graceful diving catches on TV and think they're easy. Mastering this skill requires complete concentration and a soft landing spot. After campers are shown the proper instruction, they get to practice and practice and practice because this Slammer Skill makes them feel like their a pro. Repetition makes the master. #MakingTheBigCatchLookEasy
After years of observing youth ballplayers wandering off in thought during games, I asked my kids why they enjoyed playing video games more than baseball and softball. “Because the game never slows down” my daughter so eloquently revealed one day.
She’s right, the game can be slow and boring.
After doing a ton of research, I came across a stat that motivated me to action: The average major league baseball game contains just under 18 minutes of actual playing time. Attend a youth game and you’ll easily wonder if it’s even half that over the course of an hour and a half. No wonder these kids are bored.
The objective for the Runner Gunner Slugger Worldwide became crystal clear: remove the slow moments, and increase the action – just like a video game.
When the ball is in play, players get the reps they need to keep their mind in the game.
Having coached kids for over 16 seasons, I know kids learn technique faster when it's fun. This camp gamifies some of the key skills (Slammer Skillz) needed to excel at this game. When they're not competing in a 5-Pitch Plucky, instructors will teach technique so your player can make the next big play.
These are action-packed, development-rich, positively fun events. Your player will stay in the game longer.
